Can you believe it's already time to start thinking about the postseason?
Volleyball will be the first to start the playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and the rest of the fall sports will be close behind as the playoff brackets and state qualifier lists come into focus.
With that in mind, here are the top matchups of the week for the high schools around Clackamas County.

Football

St. Helens at Milwaukie, Thursday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.

The Mustangs are fighting for a playoff spot — their first since 2017 — in 4A Special District 1. Milwaukie and St. Helens have the best shot at the league’s third automatic playoff bid, making this game incredibly important for both teams.

Nelson at Sandy, Thursday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.

Nelson and Sandy enter Week 8 tied in the Mt. Hood Conference standings at 4-1, sitting just behind league leaders Central Catholic. The Hawks could be in for another high-scoring battle against the Pioneers, and a Nelson win could also solidify the team's spot in the newly condensed, 16-team 6A championship bracket.

Volleyball

Putnam at Wilsonville, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 6:45 p.m.

On the final match day of the regular season, these two NWOC counterparts take the court in a meeting of two playoff-bound teams. The matchup in the middle between Wilsonville's Emma Alewine and Putnam’s Rylee Lemen is worth keeping an eye on as the Wildcats look to clinch the league title.

<h4>OSAA 6A Volleyball State Championships, Wednesday, Oct. 26, TBD

Can you believe it’s already time for playoffs? The best teams in the state will take the court for the first round of their 32-team championship tournaments. Among the local favorites in the 6A field are Oregon City and Nelson, while West Linn and Lakeridge could be dark horses.

Boys soccer

La Salle Prep at Parkrose, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m.

The top two teams in the NWOC clash in Northeast Portland as La Salle Prep travels to face Parkrose. Led by Vance Sheffield, Quentin Strange, Luke Warner and a host of other talented players, the Falcons are looking to add another league title to the trophy case before beginning their state title defense in earnest.

Lake Oswego at Lakeridge, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m.

There will be more than just bragging rights on the line when Lake Oswego and Lakeridge meet on Oct. 25. The Pacers and Lakers have distinguished themselves as the two best teams in the Three Rivers League this season. Now, it’s time for them to settle it on the pitch in the Battle of the Lake.

Girls soccer

West Linn at Tualatin, Friday, Oct. 21, 7 p.m.

Depending on how other matchups earlier in the week go, this game could end up deciding the Three Rivers League race. The Lions have been strong all year long, allowing just three goals through their first 11 games while posting an unblemished 8-0-3 record.

Oregon City at Tualatin, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m.

Oregon City has its own soccer match with Tualatin to worry about, as the teams vie for position near the top of the Three Rivers League. This regular-season finale could also have major seeding implications for the 6A playoffs, which begin Saturday, Oct. 29.
