On May 16, a flight safety team from the US Air Forces Europe-Africa Air Forces (USAFE-AFAF) traveled to Abuja to conduct a five-day military exchange program to enhance the operational security of the Nigerian Air Force.

The security team visited the NAF Institute of Security (NAFIS) in Ipetu-Ijesa, which was the US Air Force’s first visit there. NAFIS is the formal school for Nigerian Air Force officers running unit security programs and is responsible for maintaining a service-wide culture of security. After departing from NAFIS, the team met with leadership and security officers from a Nigerian Air Force transport squadron to discuss the appropriate security organizational structure, security reporting procedures, and the role of formal schools. of security.
The United States has collaborated with the Nigerian Air Force, through USAFE-AFAF, on various security-related programs in the past. In August 2021, a USAFE-AFAF security team visited the 307 Executive Airlift Group to assess the security program and make recommendations. Shortly thereafter, USAFE-AFAF conducted a two-week formal security course for 24 Nigerian Air Force officers. In return, USAFE-AFAF sent two security course participants to the United States to attend a U.S. Air Force International Security Program Officer Course at Kirtland Air Force Base. in New Mexico.
The United States is dedicated to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in its efforts to improve its operational security. This priority was reiterated by the US Mission to Nigeria at this year’s “Country Coordination Meeting” between the US and Nigerian militaries.
