Residents in Charnwood are being encouraged to grab themselves a free tree!
The borough council is once again teaming up with its open spaces partner idverde to run the scheme which will see 4,000 trees handed out across the borough.
Residents have until Monday November 28, 2022 to apply.
Cllr Roy Rollings, lead member for transformation with responsibility for the Council’s campaign to become Carbon Neutral by 2030 said: “I’m delighted to say the Council’s free tree scheme is returning this year! We had a great response to our giveaways in the past, so I would encourage people to apply as soon as possible to snap up their free trees!
“Trees provide a wide range of positive impacts on the environment and our local communities.
“We are proud that Charnwood is part of the National Forest, and we want residents to be able to make our borough even greener by planting a tree in their gardens.”
The Council ran free tree schemes in 2018 and 2019 when a total of 8,000 trees were given away.
Households and community groups are eligible to choose up to two trees and there is a choice of four varieties: crab apple, hazel, rowan and silver birch.
The trees will be approximately 20cm – 40cm when they are collected.
Each resident who applies for a free tree will be given a guide on how to plant and look after them.
Trees will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and handed out during National Tree Week which is ran by The Tree Council and takes place between November 26 – December 4.
Residents who apply for a free tree must be available to collect on either Saturday December 3 or Sunday December 4 between 10am-2pm from one of the following locations:
