MT. CLEMENS, Mich. – A woman accused of attacking a teenager with a machete-style weapon while he was riding his bike has been charged with assault in Macomb County.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday charged 28-year-old Michelle Thomas, of Mt. Clemens, with two felonies in connection with the non-fatal attack of a teen who was riding his bike to work last week.
According to authorities, at about 7 a.m. on Sept. 23, a 19-year-old Clinton Township man was riding his bike to work when he was attacked in the area of Church Street and Gratiot Avenue in Mt. Clemens. The teen said he was approached by a woman who attacked him with a machete-style weapon.
The man had several cuts, though they were non life-threatening, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Thomas, identified as the suspected attacker, was located on foot several streets away from the scene of the assault, police said. Calls from several witnesses reportedly helped police locate the woman following the attack.
Authorities found a machete-style weapon on Thomas during a search. The woman was arrested without incident that same day.
The 28-year-old was charged on Monday, Sept. 26, with one count of assault with intent to murder, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. She is being held on a $100,000 bond and must wear a GPS tether and zero contact with the 19-year-old if released.
Thomas is scheduled to appear in court next on Oct. 4.
Police say they have not been able to find a link between Thomas and the victim. Anyone with information can contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at 586-783-8118.
