CHIPPEWA FALLS — A St. Croix County man has been charged with sexually touching an 11-year-old girl in Chippewa Falls.
Trace W. Smith, 30, of the town of Wilson, was charged in Chippewa County Court with one count of first-degree sexual assault of a child. Smith will make his initial appearance in court Feb. 7.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl recently told a Chippewa Falls police officer that the incident happened on July 10, 2021, in Chippewa Falls. The girl said she had fallen asleep at a home in city limits, and she woke up to Smith lying next to her. He sexually touched her, but when he tried to put his hands under her clothing, she was able to move away from him.
